Rafael Nadal to Make Grand Slam Return at Australian Open
Spaniard to Face Cameron Norrie in First Round
Australian Open Action Continues on Day Two
Madrid, Spain - Rafael Nadal will make his long-awaited return to Grand Slam tennis at the Australian Open, which begins on Monday, January 16. The 22-time Grand Slam champion has been sidelined since August with a foot injury.
Nadal will face British No. 1 Cameron Norrie in the first round. The Spaniard has a 2-0 head-to-head record against Norrie, including a victory in the final of the Barcelona Open last year.
If Nadal advances, he could face Nick Kyrgios in the second round. Kyrgios is one of the most dangerous players on tour and is always a threat to upset the top players. Nadal has a 6-3 head-to-head record against Kyrgios, but the Australian has won their last two meetings.
The Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the year and is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. Nadal has won the Australian Open twice, in 2009 and 2017. He is the third-seeded player in this year's tournament behind Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev.
The Australian Open will be broadcast live on ESPN in the United States. Tennis Channel will also provide coverage of the tournament.
