What Happened

On May 15, 2021, a horrific accident occurred on the North-South Expressway near Seremban, Malaysia. A speeding trailer truck rammed into a stationary lorry, rupturing a gas tanker, which exploded and engulfed several vehicles, burning victims beyond recognition. The tragedy claimed the lives of 10 individuals and left two seriously injured.

The victims, all Malaysian citizens, ranged in age from 12 to 55 years. The government announced compensation of RM100,000 (approx. USD $24,000) to each of the victims' families and RM10,000 (approx. USD $2,400) to the injured.

The impact caused the tanker to rupture, releasing liquefied petroleum gas, which ignited upon contact with a nearby spark. The ensuing explosion created a massive fireball that engulfed multiple vehicles. The police arrested the truck driver, who was later charged with negligence and causing death by reckless driving.
