Norway: Tourist fined for approaching walrus on ice floe

A 42-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder attempted murder and terrorist acts after a shooting in the centre of Norways.. The man went near the animal on an ice floe near the worlds northernmost settlement in. He was fined 10,000 kroner ($1,000) for violating a law that prohibits approaching walruses within 50 meters (164 feet). Andersen admitted he was aware of the rules about not approaching walruses, but said he didn't think he was close enough to disturb the animal. The incident occurred on July 17 near the town of Ny-Alesund, which is located on the island of Spitsbergen in the Svalbard archipelago. Walruses are protected animals in Norway, and it is illegal to approach them within 50 meters. The animals can be aggressive if they feel threatened, and they have been known to attack humans. In 2015, a walrus attacked and killed a 16-year-old boy in the Svalbard archipelago.
