A helicopter carrying President Ebrahim Raisi crashed on Sunday, according to Iran's state media, but the president and other officials on board survived.
This grab taken from handout video footage released by the IRINN Iranian state television network on May 19, 2024 shows Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi.
The helicopter was traveling back from East Azerbaijan when it suffered a "hard landing" in a rural area, according to state television. Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian were on board, along with other officials.
The Mossad, Israel's spy service, has a long history of assassinating its enemies, including in Iran. Mr. Raisi has been an outspoken critic of Israel and has called for the destruction of the state.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's fate was unknown late Sunday hours after his helicopter crashed in a remote area of the country.
